MOROCCO : SOLIDARITY WITH THE PEOPLE OF SIDI IFNI

For the Liberation of BRAHIM BARA MEMBER of ATTAC Morocco and all Sidi Ifni prisoners

On 7 June 2008 ( “Black Saturday”), the inhabitants of Sidi Ifni, a city located about 160 km south of Agadir, were victims of an operation to reprisals and widespread repression. Women and children were not spared. More than 4 000 police officers and auxiliary forces have violently repressed blocking the port, where militants were installed last week to defend their legitimate right to obtain work and the possibility of decent life. The forces of repression have also attacked and invested randomly selected homes, terrorizing the entire city. Then when torture, looting and arrests. Some even refer rape and murder.

Following these events 12 activists were arrested including BRAHIM BARA, general secretary of the local Attac in Sidi Ifni sued for reasons of forming a criminal gang, armed crowd and civil disobedience! Brahim Sebaa Ellil member of the Moroccan Centre for Human Rights was sentenced July 10 to 6 months in jail and a fine of 50,000 dh for disseminating false information.

We, signatories of this petition:

— Condemn interventions violent forces of repression against the population of Sidi Ifni;

— Extend our full solidarity with the people of Sidi Ifni and support their legitimate mobilization;

— Demand the immediate and unconditional release of Brahim BARA member of ATTAC Morocco and all the militants arrested and call for the end of proceedings against them.
